San Diego has on average 23 rainy days per year. That means that almost every day has suitable conditions for golf. With this much good weather, it is no surprise that San Diego is one of the most popular golf destinations in the world. However, with more than 90 courses choosing the right one might be a difficult task. That’s why we have given you our rundown of the best San Diego Golf Courses.
Torrey Pines: The Classic
It would be very surprising if you were a golfer and had not heard of this course. The host of many PGA tournaments, both the South and North Courses are known for their breathtaking beauty and challenging holes. If you are not a resident of San Diego, the fees can be quite steep so you might want to consider playing weekday or twilight. Simply put, Torrey Pines is considered by many to be the best golf course in San Diego.
Coronado Golf Course: Beautiful Waterfront Views
This course has a completely different atmosphere than Torrey Pines and it’s much more affordable! Located right over the Coronado Bridge, this municipal course offers you a striking view of the bay. As you play, you will see the San Diego skyline, boats sailing across the water, and maybe even a fighter jet or two. It can be a little hectic, but a lot of players channel this energy into great games.
Maderas Golf Club: California Nature
With so many golf courses and an abundance of plants everywhere, people seem to think of San Diego as a very green place. But remember how it only rains here 23 days a year? The natural landscape is closer to desert and Maderas does an excellent job of blending its lush green courses with the natural beauty of the hills that surround it. It has five waterfalls and three lakes. It’s on the pricier side, but it has also been consistently voted as one of the best San Diego golf courses. Even over Torrey Pines!
Park Hyatt Aviara: North County Gem
Some of the best San Diego public courses are located in North County. Located just a couple miles from the ocean, the Park Hyatt course is ideal for anyone visiting the area. The hotel is fantastic and the course is unbeatable - Golf Digest rated them the #1 resort course in the city. It also gives an opportunity to see the small beach towns of the area that are fantastic for unwinding after 18 or 36 holes.
Balboa Park Golf Course: The Budget Pick
Balboa Park is one of the top public golf courses in San Diego and this course located inside it is certainly one you should not miss. Just a few minutes from downtown, this course is supremely affordable, challenging, and offers you great views of the city. Green fees start at just $32.00 for residents and $40.00 for non-resident.
