Kansas Golf Courses: 5 Public Courses Every Golfer Should Play

Kansas golf courses feature the variety of natural landscapes that The Wheat State has to offer. There are more than 260 golf courses in Kansas, but don’t let the number fool you. The state is rich with beautiful golf courses that should be on your bucket list. Overall, there is a great collection of public golf courses to choose from.

You can view a complete listing of courses that you can play in our map directory below. Here are five Kansas public golf courses that you should know about:

Sand Creek Station (Newton, Kansas)

Sand Creek Station kicks off our list with an entirely unique design. The course pays homage to architectural styles from classic Scotish courses as well as early American influences. This is also one of the great values in Kansas golf courses, with greens fees ranging from $34 – $49 with a cart included. Overall, this course should definitely be on your list for its combination of design features, course conditions, and value.

Colbert Hills (Manhattan, Kansas)

If you want to get the private golf club experience for a daily fee then you should check out Colbert Hills. This is a top-notch facility that features 27 holes of championship golf as well as a full-service practice area. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful piece of land, and it’s one of the main reasons why they have been ranked the #1 course in the state by almost every major publication.

Firekeeper (Mayetta, Kansas)

Firekeeper is one of the newest Kansas golf courses located just north of Topeka. Designed by former PGA Tour Play Notah Begay III, it opened in 2011 to well-deserved recognition. The goal was to make sure the course showcased the beauty of the Native American land without disturbing the natural environment. Those who have played the course usually come away with rave reviews. With tees ranging from 4,500 yards all the way to 7,500, it suits golfers of all levels. Overall, this has become one of the great courses in the state and is definitely worth the trip.

Ironhorse (Leawood, Kansas)

If you are in Kansas City then you need to play Ironhorse Golf Club. It has consistently been ranked one of the best public courses in the state, and certainly one of the top facilities in the Kansas City metro region. If you take a quick look through the gallery on their website you’ll quickly find out why.

Buffalo Dunes (Garden City, Kansas)

Rounding out our list of top Kansas golf courses is Buffalo Dunes. This is easily one of the great values in the state, and they are always mentioned as one of the top municipal courses in the United States.
